Barrow has now an English Professional Boxing Champion. MTK Global’s Liam Conroy has once again proved that persistence, intense training and right timing are key to winning a championship belt.
In a second-round knockout stoppage victory against reigning champion Joel McIntyre, Liam has claimed the English Light Heavyweight title at the famous York Hall – the home of UK boxing. After 7 consecutive wins, he has beaten a fierce opponent who had won 16 of his 17 fights.
In the first round, Liam landed a smashing right hand that sent McIntyre to the floor, a heavy knockdown for the Portsmouth boxer. The second round started with McIntyre still looking groggy. Liam went into attack immediately as he pushes forward with a powerful assault. The referee stopped the fight at 1 minute 20 seconds of round 2.
“Probably about 8 years ago, I told my old man that I would put the British title in his living room. I don’t know if I was convinced back then, but I did it eventually. Mission accomplished. Huge thanks to Johnney Roye and the rest of my trainers for keeping me ahead of the game. On to the next one,” says the new English champ.
